How’s this for my backup plan for catching my roommate in the act of doing weed?

In case Plan A doesn’t work (maybe there’s still not enough evidence), I will try to get video/photo evidence of my roommate doing marijuana in the privacy of our bathroom.
So here’s the preparation phase:
1. I move my 24-pack water bottle set into the corner of the bathroom a few days before I plant the surveillance device, an Eyetoy (for PS2), in the water bottle pack. I’ll let him get used to its presence…that’s why I’m giving it a few days before I plant in the Eyetoy. If he asks me about why the water bottle pack is there, I’ll just say I’m trying to make space for my shelf. It is the trojan horse of this plan.
2. I prepare the Eyetoy by wrapping the camera part with tissue paper to make it less noticeable and also wrapping the usb cable with tissue paper to make the cable camouflage with the bathroom wall. I might use an object like a backpack or something to block the sight of the cable.
3. I cut a water bottle in half or close to half and plant it in the middle of the water bottle pack upside down, being surrounded by other water bottles. It will serve as the platform for which to hold the Eyetoy.
4. I install the Eyetoy PC driver for Windows Vista on my laptop (so I can use Eyetoy on my laptop) and also a Webcam video recording program that captures video or photos.
4. Now it’s time to plant the Eyetoy into the trojan horse. I’ll lay it on top of the water bottle platform from Step 3. I must angle the camera at the right angle so it can capture the picture/video of my roommate smoking weed. Alternatively, I could just have it focus on the hiding place of the weed (which I know where it is). I’ll cut a hole in the plastic wrapping of the water bottle pack. The water bottles, plastic wrap, and the tissue paper will conceal the Eyetoy.
So that is the end of the preparation….now for the fun part.
When my roommate decides to have another weed session in the bathroom, I’ll quickly connect the Eyetoy to my laptop, run the webcam video recording software. And record the footage =) . Then I’ll initiate Plan A. That footage, if done properly, will be ample evidence that will ensure his downfall if the search done by the police from Plan A doesn’t work.
Like I said in my entry for Plan A, I’m doing this for getting even with my roommate after being such a prick to me. Luckily for him, we’re in California, so weed possession is decriminalized. Hopefully he doesn’t get convicted of obstruction of justice for lying to the police about not having weed….otherwise he’ll get at least 6 months of jail time. I don’t hate him that much to wish him that.
So what do ya’ll think?
If I don’t video capture him smoking weed….how else can I find evidence? He’s just going to quickly discard and flush down the weed when the cops come….
Ah you guys don’t understand….it’s not the weed I’m bothered by…..it’s how this guy has been treating me that’s making me want to do this….

I think you need to just let it go, live your life, not worry about the guy and if it bugs you so much that he’s a jerk to you, just stop being ‘nice’ to him. Problem solved.

Give me a thumbs down, whatever… But you sound like you are an adult [over the age of 18] but it doesn’t seem like you’re acting like one. I’m in no way defending your roommate, because it’s obvious he/she has problems, and a lack of respect for you. However, this "plan" only makes you seem just as immature as him.
Handle it like an adult: change living arrangements and improve your surroundings. Coming up with sinister plans of revenge on Yahoo! Answers certainly isn’t an answer, regardless of how much this person may have pissed you off.
Otherwise, you’re dealing with weed, not coke. Unless your roommate has ounces laying around the house, you’ll only be making YOUR life worse by making his. AND if he is hiding ounces in the house–well, that’s like calling the cops on your roommate while your roommate is a marijuana dealer. That’s a step away from calling the cops on yourself.
Don’t your life into a living hell because you wanted the last laugh. Move out.

Dude, why do you even care what he smokes man? First off its his own body, if he wants to polute it than thats on him, but alcohol and cigarettes (two legal drugs) are worse than it. AND on top of it all thats a terrible idea, if you want to get him on camera do it like outside on the porch or something.

Seriously, you could get in a lot of trouble violating your roommate’s privacy like that. If he is smoking marijuana and you can smell the smoke you can call the police. The hidden camera in the bathroom is a big no-no.

Putting a camera in a bathroom without another person’s knowledge and consent is illegal.
Like Trooper3 (one of my favorite answerers in this section) said, he can sue you. A ticket/misdemeanor for weed is much less than the civil suit you’ll get slapped with.

Why not just ask him to move out because if you have to go for a job interview and they do a hair folicle test you won’t pass because of the passive side of it, and trooper 3 is right thats classed as an invasion of privacy and he can sue you, so be up front and tell him that your place is a drug free zone and if he doesn’t like it move out, at least that way you don’t have to worry about it anymore, hope this helps, goodluck!

FOr all those who keeps attacking him, If the room mate is smoking Pot, he has a right to stop him. I am highly allergic to smoke pot, and I consider it an assault if I was forced to do drugs with out my permission. Bathroom is off limits though.

If you do it, don’t involve anyone else. (Especially not the police. They’ve got much more important things to do than help you prank your roommate.) Why not just email him the video? That way he knows you’ve nabbed him and could show the video at any time. I wonder, is that blackmail or leverage?

There’s only one fallacy to your plan…you have to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the "materials" videoed are actually marijuana.
If this case went to trial you could have a expert witness testify that the material looks like marijuana, but without having the ability to obtain and test the material…there is reasonable doubt.
Your roommates defense could be the event was planned as they knew before hand you would try to mess with them so they used fake marijuana.

It’s illegal to record someone. It doesn’t matter how you do it. By doing this it also makes you just as guilty as him. How has he been treating you? People don’t get aggresive when they smoke. It mellows them out. You say you are not bothered by it, But you actually are. You have put WAY to much time into this. Give it a rest and just talk to him. You will save alot more energy this way.
