I think my older brother is doing drugs. Is the following plan to help him okay?
My older brother is 17 years old and I’m only 13 years old. I think my brother may be doing drugs, but I have no proof. My only suspicion is the following recent behavior: He frequently locks himself in the bathroom when we are at home after school. When I listen next to the bathroom door I can hear weird noises which includes a sound like heavy breathing or something. When he comes out I ask him if we can play Super Mario Melee but he says he’s a little sleepy and doesn’t have the energy to play video games at the moment. When I ask him what was he doing in the bathroom for so long he replies with stuff like "It’s not something you need to know about", "It’s really not your business", "It doesn’t concern you.", etc. Sometimes I even find some weird white dried up drops in the bathroom after he used it. I think those drops may have been leftover from the drugs and he didn’t do a good enough job of cleaning. I don’t know for sure if those drops were evidence of drugs, but I cleaned them up in case mom or dad might have seen them and get mad about drugs in the house.
I’m really concerned about him, but I have no concrete proof what he’s doing in the bathroom is actually drugs. However, all the evidence I’ve stated points to drug usage. I know he said that it’s not something I need to know about and it doesn’t concern me, but he is my brother. If he is doing something that could kill him like drugs I feel like it is something I need to know about and it should concern me.
The following is my plan to help him:
1. First, I need evidence he is actually using drugs. I plan to borrow an old camcorder from a friend at school and hide it in our bathroom. When my brother and me are home after school I’ll go straight to the bathroom and wait until my brother says he needs to use it. I’ll turn on and start the recording function on the hidden camera and let my brother do whatever he does in the bathroom. Once he’s done I’ll wait until he’s in the kitchen and go back to the bathroom and watch what the hidden camera recorded (which should be the drug usage).
2. Confront him that I know he is using drugs in the bathroom. Ask him to please stop because I don’t want to lose my only brother.
3. If he doesn’t promise to stop then I’ll show the tape to mom and dad and they’ll be able to get him to stop.
Does my plan sound okay?

instead of just going ahead and filming him while he is in the bathroom, you should ask him honestly, "are you doing drugs" and if he gets nervous or you suspect he is lying then video tape him. you should tell him that you really care about him and if he is doing drugs to stop. if you tape him and you see him doing it, ask him one more time. don’t bring your parents in until he continually gets high or he gets worse. then, tell him that you saw him.
If he admits to doing drugs, he could have a long road ahead of him. you should be very supportive of his good decisions and help him through. At least he can admit to doing it. thats one step closer to stopping.

Yeha, that sounds great. Sorry about your brother, he sounds kind of like a nimrod for doing drugs though…

i think so but make sure you try to be nice to him and understanding because people do drugs for a reason. he is addicted to them and needs mental help. best of luck and God Bless.

No it doesn’t sound like he’s doing drugs, it sounds like he’s masturbating. Guys get tired after masturbating because our heart rates slow down, don’t talk to him about it, the camcorder thing is a terrible idea because you might catch him masturbating which would humiliate him, the best thing would be to check his pockets to see if you find anything.

well you got to be careful because if he finds the camcorder he really doesnt do drugs then youll have to do some deep explaining. so maybe you can just tweek it a bit.

I think its really great that you care about your brother,i just lost my cousin which was like a brother to me to a herion overdose. But you are so young and thats a big job trying to face on your own. I say throw your plan out sit down and talk to your mom and dad and tell them what you think is going on but you are not sure you havent seen it. Tell them you dont want your brother mad at you. Your parents will know how to deal with it so that your brother doesnt even know you said anything. They have drug test that parents can buy at alot of stores. This is nothing to play around with so talk to your mom and dad right away you could be saving your brothers life. Best of luck

It’s very good that you’re concerned about your brother. However, it doesn’t sound like he’s doing drugs at all for various reasons (some being that many drugs don’t involve heavy breathing, many don’t make a person tired, and none that I’m aware of would make white drops of anything) but instead is masturbating, or ‘touching himself’. That would explain the breathing noises, the white drops, and the being tired afterwards. You shouldn’t worry if that’s the case, because most boys do it at some point or another, and it’s completely harmless, it won’t hurt him and definitely won’t kill him.
What you need to do is talk to your brother. Tell him you’re worried that he’s doing drugs, but you know that he might also be masturbating (or touching himself, whatever you feel comfortable saying) and if he is he should just tell you so you don’t worry about him or tell his parents what he’s doing.
